The Corneille Competition
The Corneille Competition – Concours International de Chant Baroque de Normandie, organized by Le Poème Harmonique, is dedicated to supporting the next generation of Baroque singers. It offers outstanding young artists a unique platform to showcase their talent before audiences and an international jury of leading performers, teachers, artistic directors, and producers, helping them take the first steps towards a successful professional career. By bringing together some of the most influential figures in the Baroque music world and developing partnerships with festivals, opera houses, and cultural institutions, the Competition provides its laureates not only with price money, but with valuable performance opportunities and lasting professional connections.
Through this initiative, Le Poème Harmonique reaffirms its commitment to the transmission and promotion of Baroque repertoire. The Competition encourages young musicians to explore both iconic masterpieces and lesser-known treasures, making it far more than a contest: it is a lively platform for artistic exchange, discovery, and the celebration of Baroque music.
The Corneille Competition also offers audiences in Normandy a rare opportunity to discover the richness and diversity of the Baroque vocal repertoire. Over several days, each stage of the Competition invites listeners to explore a wide range of styles, composers, and musical traditions, combining artistic excellence with an open and welcoming atmosphere.
Beyond the Corneille Competition?
The journey does not end with the announcement of the winners. Since 2023, Le Poème Harmonique has extended its commitment to emerging artists through the Nouvelles Voix en Normandie tour. Created to support the professional development of the Competition's laureates, the tour offers them the opportunity to perform masterpieces of the Baroque repertoire in some of Normandy's most remarkable—and often unexpected—heritage sites. By bringing music to exceptional venues beyond the traditional concert circuit, the tour enables artists to gain invaluable stage experience while inviting audiences to rediscover the region's rich cultural heritage through live performance.
